The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is officially in the works. This new subcompact crossover is to the Mazda CX-5 what the Mazda CX-30 is to the Mazda CX-3.

Some new details have recently been confirmed, though there is still a lot of information that is currently up in the air. Here is everything we know so far about this new Mazda.

Under the hood, you'll find a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 186 hp. However, there will be an option for an upgraded turbocharged variation that produces 250 hp. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive comes standard. Upon release, a hybrid version will also be available.

Built for Diverse Commuting

The latest version of i-Activ AWD® will come standard on all Mazda CX-50 trims. It will also come with Mazda Intelligent Drive Select technology, which consists of a multi-drive system with modes designed for sport driving and off-road traversing. Upper trims will also have a mode designed for towing.

As for the body, the platform will utilize the same chassis as the Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda CX-30. It also has a higher ground clearance with a strengthened suspension and roof. Essentially, these modifications are designed for off-road terrain.

The cabin will provide seating for up to five passengers over two rows of seating. Spy photos revealed an 8.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, though it’s not known if this size is standard. Cargo space capacity hasn’t been confirmed, but the manufacturer has confirmed storage will be optimized for storing outdoor gear.
